What have I been up to?

my life 1 Comment

2 papers down. To be frank, having 2 papers back to back is really tiring. I was so braindead, that I simply couldn’t function very well the next day.

Thus I was dragged out to bookstores, art shops, and simple indulgences like lunch @ pepper lunch, some drinks at tcc, and a movie at The Grand Cathay. Yeah, all in one day. I like it very much, because its like a good break before embarking on the next 2 papers preparations.

LOL.

Anyway, plenty of stuff that I have in mind, and I shall slowly see to it that its all posted up here. Probably need to shake up my thoughts after 25th November, and in the meantime, hope I will be able to survive the exam season! :)

I guess I gotta stop here, though I could drone on and on… Because I need to study :)

Preparation in Progress

my life 2 Comments

I know I shouldn’t be blogging, but I think my brain’s a little saturated for now, so yup, am back here writing. :P

Progress has been quite fine so far, and I am kinda prepared for my second last paper. What an irony, but I guess that will speed up my revision before the paper itself. This leaves me with preparations under going for the first 2 papers, and I left my last paper preparation untouched. Oops. LOL.

Oddly, I feel stressed this time around, but not the very kan cheong type of stress where I will almost break down in tears with the contents that I have to read. In short, nervous but not overly nervous. Don’t know if its a good thing or not, but heh, nothing’s gonna be bad I guess as long as I prepare for my papers.

After exams, I will grab what little time I have to relax and destress myself, before concentrating full time on my Final Year Project. So yours truly will be buried in work once more. But I will still try to make time for myself and friends around me.

Gambatte ne! For all whom will be sitting for exams. :)

Apply or Not?

my life 2 Comments

Am proud of myself that I am almost done preparing a paper, and it was an effective study session at school. Thanks Ruiping and Theresia.

Am pondering if I should take the plunge and apply for a job opening at Toshiba, and stand a chance to work in Japan. I am hesitating. I know there is no harm but…

I don’t know what to do.

Apply? or Don’t apply?

Global Entrepreneurship Week

my life Comments Off

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! With recession looming towards our local job market, What can we do? For those whom are employed, pray that you will not be axed from the company? For those whom are fresh out of school, trying to look for a job? And what about those whom are employed but hate their jobs?

Fortunately, there is this one thing call Entrepreneurship. To me, I feel that as long as one wants to be free of working under a supervisor/boss, be your own BOSS! Yes, you heard me. Being a boss on your own is never easy, but it is definitely a rewarding path.

There are many opportunities that one can explore, and who knows? You just might be the next one having a great business idea that might just be your launchpad to having your own business. Entrepreneurship need not be a one man show. Gather up like minded people and unleash the ideas that you have.

You ask, how do I get started? What do I need to know?

With that, allow me to tell you that the Global Entrepreneurship Week is coming. From 17th November to 23rd November, there will be events lined up everyday of the week, covering Business, Technology and Youth categories. From workshops to forums, to camps for youths, one will get more information and tips about Entrepreneurship. :)

Global Entrepreneurship week is organized by ACE and NUS Enterprise.

So get your thinking caps out, and start thinking about your new business ideas. You might just be the next generation of entrepreneurs. :)

Unlock the ideas in you.

nuggets of information

my life 2 Comments

Haha, I finally can announce this piece of news on my blog… Am part of the Tech65 crew now :)

Like DK, Derrick from Lenovo has kindly lent me a Ideapad U110 to try out for about 2 weeks, and I have not blogged about it yet, because of my projects and pending examinations. I had a great time trying it out, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. From DK’s post, the looks of the X300 is quite small and nifty to run around with :P

Me bad, but I will make up for it when exams are over. :) So that will be a tech review to look out for :)

On top of that, HP has released its TouchSmart API, helping developers to develop applications for the TouchSmart PC! Thanks Melvin for the information :)

As the geek girl evolves to a study nerd for the examination season, she will not be posting much stuff about tech, or talking tech on tech65 podcasts, till exams are over on November 25.

In the meantime, random posts on and off, when I get extremely stressed up.

For now, ciaoz

Thoughts on writing

my life 3 Comments

Having thought through what I could do for my blog, here are some changes I might consider to add to my current writings :)

As you all know, I used to write for PayPerPost but I’ve stopped because it’s no longer relevant to what I am blogging, and having to blog and be obsessed with the amount I earn simply don’t click. Money don’t drive me to blog, but its my passion and interests to blog. Not saying PayPerPost sucks or what, just that I think its just too much time and effort for me to fight with its huge base of users for the ads. :)

So now I am writing reviews from time to time given to me by Blog2u, which I am very happy with. I like the way they contact and communicate via email which I receive prompt response and needless to say, am very happy to be one of their featured bloggers, and be invited to some of the events they organized. Kudos to the team at Blog2u :) Apart from that, my earnings can be donated straight to charities that Blog2u supports. Thus, I’ll stick with them.

I look forward to write more review articles on products that I’ve tried/read about/review/interest in. And I hope to inject my own take and perspective on how a product might impact on how a consumer would use it as well as along the geek perspective.

This is additional to my usual writings as you have read. :)

Looking forward to expand my writing and improving it along the way. I’m excited, though am taking it slow, albeit with all the commitments I am facing at the moment.

Cheers,
Nicole

computationally expensive

my life 3 Comments

I’m kinda disappointed at the outcome of leaving the programs to execute over the weekends. 2 days and 2 nights of computing just gone down the drain. Perhaps a wrong tool was used. Now that’s where I am baffled.

What could possibly be the case, that the program does not take up memory nor computational power, yet it gets slower and slower trying to produce the output. If it’s time it needs, then I have truly run out of time to let it finish its execution.

Erm for your information, am referring to Bioinformatics Project… Generating the phylogenetic trees. I know they are computationally expensive. On the other hand, it gave me an insight, just how intensive the execution of the program can be. My poor laptop can’t even take it (sign of it getting too old).

Although the effort’s wasted, its ok. Learnt a bit more about the project. Oddly, I am supposed to be analyzing data now.

Be back soon.

detachment from blog

my life Comments Off

Think I shall blog a bit while waiting for my assignment files to finish downloading.

First up, I am still rushing my last bit of bioinformatics project. Can’t wait to finish up the report and results interpretation. And oh preparing for exams as well.

I guess from now till end of November… I will be bogged down by exams. December’s all focused on FYP, but that is another story altogether.

Just wanna say that I will feel damn detached from everything that is happening in the internet and blogosphere, but that’s the life of a final year student. That includes plurk (marking it all as read) :P

Sometimes I am afraid I over commit on things, so I guess I have to learn to take a step back before I burn myself with too much work. Maybe pace myself a bit more.

Just forced myself a break yesterday, and was at Suntec City, where the Tropics Atrium is having the Swarovski Elements event. Saw Izel there! :)

The designs showcased are very nice, and I am glad to have picked up a number of name cards, and shall pay these shops a visit after my exams.

In all due respect, I appreciate my readers checking back for content on this blog, and I will still try my best to write, if only I’ve the time to do so. I guess its kinda hard trying to upkeep a blog along with my demanding studies (only 1 semester more to graduation!). :) and while in the meantime, feel free to read the other blogs that I’ve linked :)
