24 Oct 2007 rants of cabs and bus drivers
 |  Category: my life

Disclaimer: Not all drivers drive recklessly. Some are awfully nice :)

I think most bus and cab drivers are F1 wannabe drivers… The way they drive, makes me think that their vehicle is a powerful vehicle…. -.-” And who knows where they learn their acceleration and braking techniques… Damn “safe” la… What the hell. I just pray my hardiest that the bus won’t get involved in an accident or something… =X

Cab drivers are no better… One of them sped at 130 km/h on ECP in the first lane. I was literally clinging on to dear life. It’s craziness… True, I am a speed junkie, but not in such a vehicle that’s not meant to be driven at 130 km/h. Amazing that no TP appeared. -.-” where are they when you really need them?! The best part is when they act blur anyohow drive, making you pay more…

I detest those act blur types, unless they are genuinely unsure, or that they are new drivers. Usually I will guide them… :P because I know the direct route from highway to my house, don’t need to go one big round as some drivers claim. :P

Another reason for me to learn how to drive and ditch the messy public transport. I lost track of the countless time waiting for the buses, countless time chasing for the bus and yet it won’t stop… Perhaps its just the people… or maybe perhaps the driver…

But all these probably just gave me a whole lot more reason to push to get my driving licence as soon as possible. I relish the thought of driving myself to wherever I want to go, to places where public transport are more of hassle… That would probably be so cool… :)

  1. i met those 130km/hr cab drivers before.

one of them picked my friend and me up from SIM, was driving 120km/hr with 1 hand while sms-ing away with the other…

… along lornie road, at night.

  2. xinyun: yikes. thats terrible =X

  3. I know how you feel.

But then, China’s worst. Haha. They make these drivers look tame.

  4. you are quite right. however, we must try to understand that these drivers work long hours on the roads day and night. it may seem easy (and it is, just sit back and step on the accelerator) but it can be brutally exhausting. and imagine the monotony of driving the same roads over and over again at 90km/h. no wonder they speed like “F1 wannabe drivers”. as for bus drivers’ braking technique, i think its amazing how they can brake just at the last moment to stop mere inches from the vehicle in front. i’m sure you have noticed this when your bus stops behind another one at the bus stop. and yet i have never seen a bus accident before (though i’ve seen countless of cab ones lol). so drive safe, leave the rest to instinct and good luck getting your licence.

  5. Reminds me of the time when I was in the cab with some rather pissed off driver. He was driving super fast and swearing at other cars.

  6. No one can beat this cab driver… I dunno how he did it until now. From Jurong Pt to Raffles Place. 13mins. Champion. (Usually time taken? 22 – 25 mins.)

As for the public transport, the only guys who said it is world class are the ones who doesn’t use it, or the ones who compared it to the one in the city where they ‘quitted’ from. Just how much weight do you put in the words of non-users and quitters? lol

  7. yeap…
everytime i think of it, i’m glad i’m still alive :P

  8. Jasmine (galovesongs): gee… :S

  9. khairul: I agree with you that they work long hours and try their best to stay alert on the roads. But still, speeding and braking with a fully jammed pack bus of passengers, is probably much worse than a non-crowded bus.

I’ve seen bus accidents as well as cab accidents, and sometimes I wonder, what if they have kept to the speed limits, it would probably averted the accident :)

  10. arzhou (adrian): I understand how you feel. Was in such a cab before. Nearly got into a fight with the motorist at traffic junction, just because the motorist cut his lane. -.-”

  11. xizor2000: WAH! That’s erm fast. LoL.

  12. xinyun: yeah… I am glad I am still alive too :P

  13. haha…i only like those 130km/hr cab driver back when booking in. Especially when they sped through the Neo Teo Lane, kind of like the 5 hairpin turn in initial d…(the cabbie even commented he felt like a F1 driver at this lane…)
You are right about the braking system of theirs…so precise…not like some, will make u vomit with their constant lousy braking in the entire journey.

  14. ByPassing : hello! that area is well known for ala drifiting like initial d :P

  15. the 179 bus drivers looove to speed their way through ntu especially at night when there is very little traffic. they don’t slow down at the bends too! so if you are unfortunate enough not to get a seat, make sure you hold on tight.. i think this can actually help me build upper arm strength lol. and balance. Have to grab the pole really tight and move with the bus to prevent yourself from falling. it’s quite annoying when they brake suddenly at traffic lights..everyone floses their balance like dominoes.

But then again some drivers are very nice and go round bends and corners smoothly and slowly…

  16. magicalstar: not just the night, it happens in the day as well, especially during the peak hours! :P I am glad to get seats on the bus most of the time… :)

Of course there are some drivers who takes corners and bends very nicely… :D
