It’s a shame that I didn’t frame it well (or so I think). The building on the right should have been cropped away or left out of the photo. Should have played with the white balance for a better sky color. LOL.

Let me know how I can improve :)

Shot with a Canon EOS 500D.

  1. I like how d skyline is captured :) Good try babe! Perhaps it’s in d exposure? As u mention abt the framing, it becomes no room for d eyes to wonder. assuming tt it’s d ’shop houses’ n water u wanted to direct ur audiences attention to, try the 3/4 scale? Let’s jia you together! Lookin forward to seein u on Saturday. :)

  2. This is one of those situations where you have to give up one or the other: you either get the sky right or the buildings right. The camera tried to expose for both, and the difference is too large for the sensor to capture correctly, hence the slightly blue sky and the underexposed buildings.

What you can do is to get a GND or CPL filter to darken the sky while retaining correct exposure for the foreground buildings. If neither are available, you’ll have to choose between the buildings or the sky. This is considered a backlit scene, so meter for the buildings (if those are your subjects), or use exposure compensation (+1 to 1.3 usually is enough). This will probably blow out the sky, but you keep detail on the buildings.

Composition wise, you’re right about a tighter framing making a better picture; either that or a wider perspective. Don’t be afraid to crop if that’s what your eyes see.

Hope to see you this Saturday!

  3. Or go and take one photo with good exposure for the sky, another for the buildings, and do an HDR photo. :P
